Lost Colors

Only the very oldest people remembered

A time when humans could see in color.

No one quite remembers specific colors.

They say the trees were purple, the people blue.

Instead of everything being grey, as it is today.

I wonder if the water was pink, or polluted.

I like to imagine how the world could have been.

If we hadn’t destroyed it as we did,

Making the fresh air more heavy with toxins.

Not prioritizing the earth we were given.

The world could have been this beautiful idea,

The one that’s in my head, where people

Smile at each other, the clouds tell stories,

The animals play together instead of scavenge.

I wonder what the world could have been,

If we hadn’t stopped fighting for our colors.
